Doing A Little Bit But, Doing It Well
A few years ago I sat forward listening in anticipation as I heard a new idea in Home school education that would change my life. It was a constant elusive dream that if just signed up for this or used these 20 different text books my kids would graduate early and be some of the most intelligent people to walk the face of the earth. Always within a month I would fail to implement fully anything, instead I'd hang my head over my coffee knowing I had failed.
My family enjoys listening to Adventures in Oddessy and there is a particular episode that comes to mind. In it, Connie has decided to take on as many obligations as she can. They seem too good to say no to but, in the end they become too much. The episode ends with her learning what it is important to say yes to. I chuckle to myself because we all can take on the role of Connie in homeschooling or in life. We say yes to every single thing that promises success. When, in reality we are just accumulating stuff and putting strain on our time. I will say it firmly here and now that I would rather my children NEVER learn a foreign language if I have to run around like a mythical banshee screaming "Get it done now!" That relationship and my sanity will last far longer than Parlez-Vous Francais?
At some point in my journey I stopped listening to the masses, blogs, podcasts and books that told me how to Home school and simply listened to the creator of the universe for my inspiration.
One of the first instructions I received was
I could go through all the little ways it has been applied but, I am going to share the biggest way it has changed my life.

"Do a little bit but, do it well"
How does this idea of "Doing a little bit but do it well" translate into our Home school Day? I could go through all the little ways it has been applied but, I am going to share the biggest way it has changed my life.
Morning Meeting:
I have read online about art studies, geography, music time, and learning Latin etc. It just never seemed to fit in our schedule. The Lord laid it on my heart to begin our day with things that were important to me and to start the day on a cheerful note. (Later on I was to find out about Your Morning Basket and others)
All those back burner "fun things" were to be first on the docket.

I rotate through the items that I keep in a basket by my chair. I don't do regular or loop schedules, check lists or anything. I make sure to put a bit of them in each day as it fits in.
The point is doing just a little bit every day but doing it all the way and WELL.
My heart reaches out to you fellow Homeschool Mom. In what way is your reach over exceeding your grasp? Are you listening to the Holy Spirit tell you how to run your Homeschool or Holly Teachlightly? What are some areas that you can "Do A Little Bit But, Do It Well?"
